IF you want to be rich, you literally have to behave and think as if you were rich already. There is no substitute. Your mind is your most powerful asset and your wealth can only grow out of your mindset of abundance.
If you study the habits of successful entrepreneurs closely, you will come to realise that none of them waste their precious time on negative thinking or behaviour.
Everyone has the opportunity to embody these winning habits. Even though you may not have been born with a silver spoon, as long as you cultivate a mindset of abundance, there is no reason why success and wealth shouldn’t follow.
Here are some of the different ways you can practice a mindset of abundance.
1) Feed your mind with books on wealth and success
READING nourishes your mind. Deep, isn’t it ? (sarcastic tone). But really, it’s insane how many people stop reading once they leave formal education. And I don’t mean the trash in the tabloids. If all you do is read about how bad the economy is and how you’re never going to get ahead, what kind of images do you think your mind will create? I can tell you one thing, you definitely won’t create a mindset of abundance.
HOWEVER, if you surround yourself with success and inspiration, and surround yourself with positive people, you’ll not only learn winning strategies but you’ll also be setting yourself up for success.
One book I highly recommend to develop an abundant mindset is “Secrets Of The Millionaire Mind” by T. Harv Eker. The “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” series by Robert Kiyosaki can also shift your mindset dramatically towards achieving financial success. I say grab a copy of the one that appeals to you best and start reading!
2) Give yourself time to appreciate what you have
THE key to having an abundant mindset is appreciating the present moment as much as possible, and being grateful for all the blessings you are experiencing in your life right now. Why not start by remembering all the good things you have right now? There may not be that many, but with a little thought, I’m sure you can find some, even if it’s just the breakfast you ate this morning.
Some people even go as far as keeping a happiness journal. Everyday, they write something down that made them happy; at the end of the month, you may be surprised to see just how much you can be thankful for.
3) Be generous
Every once in a while, allow yourself to treat yourself and to treat others. You should know when to give and when to treat yourself.
Think of it as an investment. When you give yourself a chance to rest and recuperate, you tend to be more productive and eager to get back to work; treat your friends to coffee or donate to your favorite charity. If you have the opportunity to give, don’t let it slip by. Expect nothing in return and you will receive your reward in the most unexpected way.
A penny saved is still a f***ing penny – Dan Lok
Many people try to save every last penny, haggling to death with every supplier even when they don’t need to. While negotiating a good deal is always a good thing, overdoing it makes you look cheap and uncompromising and, in return, people will be reluctant to show you any generosity; some people like to call this “The Law of Attraction”, other people like to call this “The Law of Karma”. The root principle is the same.
Wealth attracts wealth
The less willing you are to behave wealthy, the less willing wealth will be to show up in your life.
You should not however confuse generosity with compulsive spending. Impulse buying or compulsive spending will probably place you in the same category as a gambling addict. Best use your judgment.
Having an abundant mindset will open up a lot of opportunities for you. It will enable you to develop a different perspective on the world, give you room for more creativity, and help attract positive influences into your life.
Just remember to surround yourself with positive energy, appreciate what you have, and be more giving to yourself and to others.
