AFTER the initial excitement of starting your new venture, you’ve now settled into a routine. Although it’s great that you have a sense of stability and security, still you feel more and more demotivated. You feel beaten down by life and excited about nothing.
If you ask my opinion, it’s about time you find new sources of inspiration.
Your business cannot grow unless you grow. While you can’t help but feel a little defeated sometimes (business is slow, annual goals aren’t met, etc.), you’ll also have to find ways of moving forward. You’ll have to re-light that spark from within.
So how do you step up your game and take action?
Read these motivational tips.
Motivational Tip # 1: Take Inspiration From Others
THERE are a plenty of outstanding individuals who have made a name for themselves in every industry; Tony Robbins, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Phelps … These people have all made it despite the setbacks and obstacles.
For me, at least, a big part of staying on focus is reading and learning from these masters. All you need is that little golden nugget of inspiration. You don’t need me to tell you to do your own search on You Tube of your favorite author, speaker, celebrity, sports person or coach. Listen to their words, read their blogs. And don’t just restrict yourself to your own field or industry. I personally take inspiration from sports stars, former military commanders and philosophers, not just business leaders. You can check out Forbes.com or even Time.com to see who are today’s movers and shakers.
There are also a lot of sites and blogs online that are dedicated to listing down famous people’s quotes. A simple as these quotes are, they can have quite a profound effect on your life. I guarantee that you’ll find a quote there you can gain inspiration from or even someone you may want to emulate. I personally like AZQuotes.com.
Motivational Tip # 2: Think Positive
Sounds corny, I know, but really, your thoughts affect your state, your state affects your actions, your actions affect your results. Positive thinking has been proven to have a powerful impact on a person’s life. While your environment may not be conducive to positive thinking, you can still be the lone light that shines, or change your environment. You have that choice.
You are what you think. Your future is what you think it to be. If you keep on thinking about how deeply demotivated you are and how you’ll never be able to achieve your goals, then that is most probably how you’ll end up.
I personally love affirmations. Affirmations are a great way to bypass your logical mind and get your subconscious to act the way you want. Usually affirmations start with the word “I” and are written in the present tense – eg. “I am a successful 7 Figure Marketer”.
Motivational Tip # 3: Reward Yourself
GOALS are hard enough to achieve without seeing some kind of reward along the way. Promise yourself a reward once you achieve your task; Go have a coffee, some chocolate, whatever it is that’ll help lift your mood. Other rewards may come along, like more recognition from your friends and family, better health, more self esteem.
Longer term, you may want to think about how achieving your goals will lead to more opportunities, with better clients and more money. Don’t bee too hard on yourself when working towards your goals.
Motivational Tip # 4: Find Support
Great minds think alike. No man is an island. I know what you’re thinking. I’ve heard all of this before. But why do we still tend to face our challenges alone?
When you feel utterly defeated and unmotivated, perhaps you need to seek support from your peers. They might be feeling just as discouraged as you are.
There is something about working together towards a common goal. It lifts the morale and gives you that extra little bit of motivation to help you achieve your goals.
Motivational Tip # 5: Do Something Different
ONE of the best ways to rekindle your fire is to do something different from your usual routine, reset your senses and see things from a fresh perspective. After all, isn’t routine one of the reasons why you’re so demotivated in the first place?
You don’t have to do anything drastic. Sometimes, a little adjustment is all you need. Try getting into the office an hour earlier, for example. Or try going to the gym early in the morning instead of after work. You may be surprised at how different your body feels or your mind is.
Or you may just try wearing different clothes, or even a different pair of glasses, if you have them. There is scientific evidence to show that what we wear significantly affects our psychology and our moods.
There are plenty of ways to motivate yourself. They don’t always have to be grand or larger than life. They can be simple and almost mundane even. It all depends on what catches your attention. Some people find motivation in the details, while others find it in the bigger picture.
